Nottingham Forest’s anger at the refereeing in last night’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United was clear for all to see.
The game was only half-way through when Forest boss Steve Cooper and Toon assistant Jason Tindall were summoned to the referee’s office and told to calm down.
After the game Eddie Howe claimed he would need to have the offside rule explained to him after Elliot Anderson had a ‘goal’ ruled out. Then it emerged that Forest as a club were furious with the performance of official Paul Tierney.

The Reds’ hierarchy, including owner Evangelos Marinakis, are understood to be fuming at the official’s decision not to award a free-kick against the Magpies prior to their equaliser. Forest felt there was a foul on Andre Ayew by Joe Willock in the build-up to Alexander Isak netting his first of the evening, but it went unpunished.
Just to twist the knife Isak scored a stoppage time winner from the penalty spot to secure a result that ended Forest’s good run of league results at the City Ground.
And lest there be any doubt the club even used their official Instagram account to claim ‘we’ve been badly let down again’, showing a picture of Willock catching Ayew’s foot.
Forest’s dissatisfaction with officialdom has become a running theme in recent weeks, with Cooper complaining about decisions made by the officiating team when the Reds drew 2-2 with Everton and which resulted in the club sending ‘feedback’ to the governing body. At the time he said: “We have submitted some feedback. I'm quite happy to do that. It's something the PGMOL are encouraging.
“Like every club, we had a visit from Howard Webb and some of his staff members four to six weeks ago. But that was a normal visit that he’s been doing in his new role. One of the things he was really encouraging was feedback. We have submitted how we're feeling at the moment, as feedback. It's the first time we've done it this season.”
However according to ESPN, the Reds submitted two video clips to the PGMOL and the the referees' body was "at odds" with Forest’s interpretation.
