Radio DJ Chris Evans says he feels “amazing” after celebrating one year of being sober following a health scare.
The Virgin Radio presenter, 58, revealed last August that he had been diagnosed with the early stages of skin cancer and that he had caught it quickly meaning it was “as treatable as cancer can possibly be”.
At the time, he admitted he “didn’t sleep” after the diagnosis, but was given the “all-clear” following eight weeks of treatment including undergoing surgery to remove a malignant growth from his leg.
The former TFI Friday star took to Instagram on Tuesday to share his latest health update.
“Happy Soberversary to us,” Evans wrote on Instagram under a picture with his wife and professional golfer Natasha Shishmanian as they raised clear glasses of what looked like water.
“One year alcohol free today. Feels amazing. Year 2 starts tomorrow.”
His friends and fans were quick to offer their congratulations and well wishes in the comments section.
“It’s quite a thing isn’t it...to drop the alcohol. I’m finding people’s reactions interesting. Congrats... looks like it’s doing you both good!” wrote TV presenter Julia Bradbury who is in remission after a breast cancer diagnosis in 2021.
“Awesome,” declared West End star Beverley Knight, who herself has been sober for over 25 years.
While another star also known to have ditched booze, Ferne Cotton, replied with six hands up emojis.
Last September, Evans and Shishmanian shared a picture of themselves celebrating 90 days of sobriety as they received their Alcoholics Anonymous Green Chip.
At that time Evans said he felt “great” for many reasons including, “self-care”, “purpose”, and “service of others”.
