BBC urban music station 1Xtra is to celebrate the music scene in Manchester with a special one-off show. DJ Target will dedicate the whole of his show tonight on the digital station to the homegrown music of the city.
The two-hour show, which airs tonight from 7pm, will feature a raft of guests from Manchester, including the likes of Nemzzz, 1Xtra's Hot For 2022 artist Meekz and a special segment on youth-run radio station Pie Radio, and will also touch upon the artists who have been leading the way for new and emerging talent in the city.
As well as music from the likes of established Manchester artists like Aitch and Bugzy Malone, there will also be material from KSR, Frenzy, July 7, Children of Zeus and Piri x Tommy Villiers. The show is part of the station’s Touchdown Tour, which will be looking at new music in various cities around the UK.
It will also be taking in Birmingham, Newcastle, Cardiff, Bristol, Brighton, Edinburgh, and Liverpool.
DJ Target said: “I’m so excited to take the Touchdown Tour to Manchester. At 1Xtra, we’re all about finding and supporting the best new talent wherever they are in the UK and there are some incredible artists coming up in Manchester’s scene right now. This tour is an amazing way for us to connect with the region - make sure you tune in tonight!”
Target is no stranger to the city, having spent time here while presenting the last series of The Rap Game UK, which was staged and filmed in the city. Last year’s show featured Manchester rapper Kay Rico on the series, though the eventual winner was London rapper Saidu.
The next series of the show will also be filmed in Manchester, with cameras set to roll soon.
