Fears of a looming nuclear disaster at the Russian-controlled reactor in Ukraine have lead to the mass distribution of iodine tablets among those at high risk of radiation poisoning.
Both sides continue to blame each other for shelling the facility - which is the largest in Europe - as Russian forces rained down missile strikes on the far side of the river that divides the town.
Despite the risks, officials from the UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), are still planning to visit the front-line plant.
