A race relations expert has blasted Harry and Meghan for turning ‘innocent speculation’ about their child’s skin color into an “attention-seeking PR stunt.”
Buki Mosaku, founder of equality and inclusion consultancy DiverseCity Think Tank, accused the pair making a “mountain out of a mole hill” – to stay relevant.
He has even offered to fly to California to explain to them what “racism” really means.
Mosaku, a leading authority on unconscious bias, insists that comments allegedly made by members of the Royal Family about the likely complexion of the pair’s son Archie were not racist.
It is “perfectly normal” for relatives to talk about the skin color of unborn babies with mixed-race parents, he said.
Conversations like these are had by families in every culture around the world every day, and the Royal Family should not be excluded from participating in them.
If the alleged comments were made in earnest then those ‘responsible’ have nothing to fear and need never apologize, he added.
Mosaku, whose clients include SKY TV and JP Morgan, has trained more than 40,000 people about discrimination in the workplace.
He said Harry and Meghan clearly need a “’What is racism?’ starter course” – and has said he would be willing to give it free-of-charge.
He hit the headlines last month after claiming that humans are hardwired to be biased and that UK companies were wasting millions of pounds on “woke” diversity and unconscious bias training that does not work.
Mosaku, the author of new guide “I Don’t Understand”: Navigating Unconscious Bias in the Workplace, said: “Questioning skin tone may seem crude to some, especially woke observers, but conversations like these are had by mixed-race families in just about every single culture in every single town and city on a daily basis.
“It is preposterous that Harry and Meghan would think these comments are anything but innocent.
“On the basis that these comments, if they were made at all, were said in this context then the Duke and Duchess have made a mountain out of a mole hill, perhaps to ensure their brand remains high on the media agenda.
“If they really, truly believe that such comments are discriminatory then I would suggest they need a ‘What is racism?’ starter course and I would be perfectly happy to jump on a plane to California and teach it on a complimentary basis.”
The furor follows claims in journalist Omid Scobie’s new book, Endgame, about how and why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from being working royals.
Among the claims are that as-yet unnamed members of the Royal Family questioned their son Archie’s skin color before he was born. The couple aired their concerns on an interview with Oprah Winfrey but the identify of those concerns was not revealed.
Scobie’s book has since been withdrawn from sale in Holland after a “translation error” appeared to include the name of one those involved.
