Quotient Sciences creates 100 new jobs fresh from multimillion-pound plant expansion

A recruitment drive to fill up to 100 new jobs has been launched at a Northumberland pharma firm, following on from recent £6.3m expansion plans.

Drug development and manufacturing accelerator Quotient Sciences expanded into the North East in 2021 when it acquired the Alnwick base from Arcinova in an undisclosed deal. The company, which provides drug substance, drug product and bioanalysis services to more than 200 pharma and biotech customers worldwide, launched multimillion-pound investment plans to expand its manufacturing operations at the site, which created an additional 80 to 100 new scientific and technical jobs at the facility.

The expansion saw Quotient Sciences tap into unused space, repurposing a 1,500sqm testing facility which had been left unused since 2016, incorporating additional equipment and technologies, significantly expanding the number of new molecules developed each year. Now employing more than 200 people across scientific disciplines including process chemistry, radiosynthesis, analytical science, bioanalysis and formulation development, the firm is creating more roles.

Around 20 roles are currently available, but the company is expected to create between 80 and 100 new roles as part of the latest expansion, of its aseptic manufacturing capability.

Paul Ryan, SVP and head of candidate development, said: “We are a growing site, creating opportunities for career growth both within the Alnwick team and as part of the wider Quotient Sciences organization. It is very inspiring to work on pharmaceutical projects that deliver on our manifesto, ‘Molecule to cure. Fast.’, and hear first-hand from some of the patients who have benefited from the new medicines we have helped to deliver.

“In 2023, the pace of growth is set to continue with the expansion of our aseptic manufacturing capability at the Alnwick site, along with continued growth across all areas of the business. This will provide opportunities for technical and manufacturing roles in drug product manufacturing.”

Mr Ryan said the Alnwick site is known for providing excellent career development opportunities, having been recognised in 2021 as the Most Inspirational North East (UK) Science Employer by STEM Learning as part of the STEM Ambassadors program.
