Fall camp is moving along for Michigan State football, with a lot of questions for the Spartans coaching staff to answer. Notably, one of the biggest questions is how the running back situation will play out.
The Spartans have several suitors vying for touches in the running back room, including UConn transfer Nate Carter, USF transfer Jaren Mangham and veterans Jalen Berger and Jordon Simmons.
MSU’s running backs coach Effrem Reed followed OC Jay Johnson to the podium on Monday, specifically discussing the running backs room.
Check out what the leader of MSU’s RBs had to say to the media on Monday:
RBs coach Effrem Reed at the podium now. Opens by saying Michigan State was "blessed" to have Walker but mentioned that there's work to do.

Running backs coach Effrem Reed now speaking:
He notes that there is a "standard" at Michigan State when it comes to running the football. The guys in the room knew that last year wasn't good enough in the running game.

MSU running backs coach Effrem Reed talk about last season, when some of the details, he said, got away from them:

MSU RB coach Effrem Reed points to other programs who have had success using 3 or 4 running backs, but he understands they all want to be the guy who gets 30 carries a game. Says he's had conversations with the 4 experienced RBs to get ahead of that being an issue.

Reed says Freshman RB Jaelon Barbarin is one of the fastest if not the fastest guy in the Big Ten.
Notes sometimes he just goes too fast and needs the game to slow down a little for him.
