Quote of the day by Pierre Trudeau: 'The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation' and a pivotal moment for gay rights in Canada

Everett George Klippert was the last person in Canada to be arrested, charged, prosecuted, convicted, and imprisoned for being gay. Klippert was originally from Kindersley, Saskatchewan, and was raised in Calgary, Alberta. In 1965, he was picked up by police for questioning in connection with a case of suspected arson. He had nothing to do with the fire but he admitted to the police having had consensual homosexual relations with four different adult men.
