For plenty of people, education follows a familiar sequence, school, university, then a career. Formal education genuinely opens doors, but it is never the only route toward success. Michael Fassbender, now one of Hollywood's most respected actors, recognised early on that this was not really his own path. "I've always been more inclined to go out to work than carry on with academic studies," he said, choosing hands-on training and real experience over an extended academic route instead. His own path towards that decision was genuinely uneven, involving failed auditions, patchy work and real self-doubt, before it eventually turned into a long and celebrated career.
