Quote of the day by Leila Hormozi, "Get around people who talk about future you. Get away from people who talk about past you," delivers a powerful message about personal growth, relationships, ambition, and the influence of our surroundings. The people we spend time with can shape the way we see ourselves and the possibilities ahead. Some conversations constantly return to old mistakes, outdated identities, and choices that no longer represent who we are. Others encourage us to imagine what we could become, challenge our limitations, and take meaningful steps toward a better future. Entrepreneur Hormozi’s words highlight an important truth: personal transformation becomes easier when the people around us recognize our potential instead of repeatedly defining us by our past. Choosing supportive relationships is therefore not simply a social preference; it can become an important part of building confidence and creating lasting change.
Everyone has a history, and that history deserves to be acknowledged rather than erased. Past experiences can provide valuable lessons, but repeatedly living inside them can prevent growth. A person who made mistakes years ago may have already learned from them, yet others may continue bringing those mistakes into every conversation. When that happens, an old version of someone can become more visible to others than the person they are becoming. This can be discouraging because meaningful change requires room to develop. People need opportunities to demonstrate new habits, new priorities, and new perspectives. Remembering the past is useful when it produces wisdom; it becomes harmful when it is used as a permanent label.
