Numbers and weapons matter in battle, but they are rarely the whole story. Sometimes the deciding factor is simply who is standing at the front, giving the orders. That idea sits behind one of the most famous lines connected to Alexander the Great. "I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion," the quote goes. Whether or not Alexander himself actually said these exact words, the point behind them has clearly lasted, repeated across more than two thousand years of history, passed from one century to the next long after the man himself was gone. Armies have changed beyond recognition since then, replaced by boardrooms, classrooms and sports fields, yet the underlying question stays the same: does the person in charge bring out the best in people, or waste it?
