Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk expected to announce major cabinet reshuffle

Queensland's health minister is expected to be removed from her portfolio in a major cabinet reshuffle.

The ABC understands Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk could announce the changes as early as Thursday, as her government faces scrutiny over its handling of youth crime, health and housing.

It is understood Health Minister Yvette D'Ath will be moved out of the portfolio, and met with the premier earlier today.

Youth Justice Minister Leanne Linard and Housing Minister Leeanne Enoch are also likely to be moved from their portfolios.

Government sources say it is likely Ms D'Ath will return to her previous portfolio, swapping with Shannon Fentiman to become attorney-general.

The expected changes come after Speaker Curtis Pitt announced last week he would temporarily step away from the role to focus on his mental health.

In a statement, he said: "A number of issues have converged at this point in my life. I'm not doing as well emotionally as I've made out to anyone."

He added his work over five terms had "taken its toll".

Ms D'Ath was Queensland's attorney-general from 2017 until the state election in October 2020.

After the Palaszczuk government won a third term she was made health minister.

Ms D'Ath is also Leader of the House and a member of the Labor Party's right faction, which includes Ms Palaszczuk and Treasurer Cameron Dick.

Shadow health minister Ros Bates said it would be the "same circus" regardless of who takes over the health portfolio.

"It doesn't matter who they put in the health portfolio, it's the same premier who's presided over all of the chaos and crisis that is now the Queensland health crisis," she said.

"Queenslanders, quite frankly, won't be fooled by a branding exercise in this reshuffle."
