Queensland Police 'one step closer' to finding Thor Morgan's killers after Harlaxton shooting

Detectives investigating the shooting death of a 25-year-old man in southern Queensland believe they are one step closer to finding those responsible for the murder.

Thor Morgan was found with a gunshot wound to his head in the suburb of Harlaxton in March.

He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and died two months later.

Police believe the offenders had been driving stolen cars in the days leading up to the shooting.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said investigators suspected a person involved in the murder had been riding in two cars stolen from Toowoomba days earlier.

"Every day we're one step closer to finding those who are responsible for shooting Mr Morgan," he said.

The cars were a grey station wagon, which had been stolen from a Newtown home in February, and a white SUV stolen from a Mount Lofty address in March.

"These two stolen cars were later found burnt out — one in Felton and another one in the Oakey area," Senior Sergeant McCusker said.

Two men have been charged with setting the vehicles alight, but police say they were not involved in Mr Morgan's death.

Search for spent shell

Senior Sergeant McCusker said police had received useful information from a network of people in Toowoomba and urged anyone involved to speak to officers.

"Some people have provided us with information, some haven't," he said.

Police are searching for a spent rifle round in the area where Mr Morgan was shot.

"A rifle used in the shooting may have discharged a spent shell into the area," Senior Sergeant McCusker said.

Police said Mr Morgan and his assailants were known to each other.

Officers will conduct further searches in the Toowoomba region in the coming day.
