A Queensland driver is alleged to have shot at a ride-share driver after yelling abuse at him and tailgating his car, police say.

The ride-share driver told police he was driving in the Gold Coast suburb of Nerang about 1.30am on Sunday when he entered a roundabout and was tailgated by a sedan.

As he exited the roundabout the sedan pulled up alongside him. The driver yelled abuse at the ride-share driver and then reached for something.

The ride-share driver sped off before he heard a loud bang.

He later stopped and inspected his car, finding what appeared to be a bullet hole.

Police are looking for a silver grey sedan. The driver is described as male, Caucasian with a proportionate build and wearing a black hat.

His passenger is described as a female Caucasian with long black hair, wearing a black dress.

Anyone with information was urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
