South Australia have suffered early setbacks at the top of the order as they look to set Queensland a challenging target in their must-win Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba.

At lunch on day three, South Australia are 3-79, a lead of just 61 over the home side.

Nathan McSweeney (12) fell in the final over before lunch, caught and bowled by Michael Neser.

Daniel Drew remains at the crease on 4no.

Queensland allrounder Jack Wildermuth put the Redbacks on the back foot with two wickets in an over after a strong opening stand for the visitors.

Resuming at 0-8, Henry Hunt (26) and Jake Carder (32) put on 61 for the opening wicket before Wildermuth knocked over both openers within five balls.

Wildermuth has 2-4 from his five overs.

Queensland collected an 18-run lead on the first innings thanks to a crucial lower-order 90 from No.7 Jimmy Peirson, after slipping to 5-99 earlier on day two.

Queensland commenced the second-last round fixture sharing second spot with Victoria while defeat for South Australia will end their hopes of making the Shield final.
