The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations came to a magnificent end exactly one year ago today - and it was also the late monarch's final Buckingham Palace balcony appearance.
Her Majesty mustered up all of her strength to join some of her closest family members Charles, William and her great-grandchildren George, Charlotte and Louis on the balcony to wave to the crowds who had come to celebrate her 70-year reign.
The Mall was packed as the former monarch, who was dressed in bright green, looked visibly emotional as she greeted royal fans in what turned out to be her final ever appearance from the famous balcony before her death last September.
However, recent reports say that the historic moment almost didn't even happen as it was only a last-minute phone call from the now King Charles that changed things, the Mirror reports.
It is understood that the 96-year-old Queen had not been well in the lead-up to the balcony appearance and had pulled out of several other engagements prior to it.
Whether she would be able to make it or not was initially unclear but after seeing the keen crowds that turned out to greet her, Charles is said to have called his mother and convinced her to come.
Speaking at the time, a source told the Daily Mail: "The Queen only decided that she would go to London about three hours before the balcony appearance.
"She was not feeling brilliant but the Prince of Wales had called her and told her she really ought to come if she could.
"He told her there were so many people desperate to see her and he convinced her to come."
The Queen said she was "humbled and deeply touched" after seeing the outpouring of public affection during her balcony appearance and thanked the crowds for helping to mark her 70-year reign.
Just three months later, Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at her Balmoral home in Scotland and Charles went on to become King.
Last month, the royals returned to the Buckingham Palace balcony for the first time since Her Majesty's death after the newly crowned King Charles and Queen Camilla celebrated their Coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
They were joined by other working members of the Royal Family including the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Once again however, it was little Prince Louis who stole the show as he excitedly banged his fists waiting for the RAF flypast in the rainy weather.
The cheeky five-year-old looked up in awe beside his sister as the helicopters and the iconic Red Arrows flew overhead.
