This week marks a big occasion for the Royal Family as Princess Beatrice turns 34.
Beatrice is the first born child of her parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and the Queen's fifth grandchild, but the family couldn't agree on her name for a while. It was a whole two weeks after her birth before her name was revealed.
It was announced she would be called Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, with her middle names paying tribute to her grandmother and great-grandmother. However, the reason behind the delay in formally announcing her name was down to her reportedly all down to her grandmother, The Queen, not liking it, writes the Mirror.
As is tradition, royals usually first tell the Queen about their name choice to check she's happy with it in an "informal chat" where it's hoped she gives her blessing. And normally, she doesn't have any issues with the name suggestions.
But it's believed that she wasn't sure when Andrew and Fergie shared their idea after welcoming their first child. According to the Sun, Fergie had her heart set on naming her daughter Princess Annabel, but Her Majesty's feedback, apparently, was that the name was too "yuppie".
However it seems as if what the Queen takes away with one hand, she gives with another - she then suggested Beatrice. She is believed to have taken inspiration from the name of Queen Victoria's youngest daughter, and the rest is history.
The royals are known for picking sentimental names for their children. Her younger sister, Princess Eugenie, picked August and used Philip as a middle name, a tribute to her late grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh.
Last year, Beatrice gave birth to her first child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The couple named their daughter Sienna - and it seems that name has a sentimental meaning to Beatrice.
Sienna is an Italian name from the Italian city of Siena, in Tuscany and, of course, her dad Edoardo has an Italian heritage. And it also appears that the name Sienna pays tribute to Beatrice's family too - especially her mother Sarah.
Sienna is used to describe the reddish-brown earth pigment that is used within paintings. And a family friend told Hello!, that Beatrice wanted to pick a name beginning with S and one which reflected the “golden rust colour of the Duchess's hair, which the new baby shares.”
“They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honour the duchess, and also reflected the golden rust colour of both the duchess's hair colour and Beatrice's which the new baby shares,” the source said.
Sienna's middle name is Elizabeth - a direct tribute to her great-grandmother the Queen.
