Leeann Dempster has vowed Queen's Park WILL play at Lesser Hampden before the end of the current season.
The Spiders - currently flying high at the top of the Scottish Championship - are playing their 'home' matches at Stenhousemuir's Ochilview Park having previously spent time at Falkirk and Partick Thistle over the past two years.
The construction of the new stadium is still ongoing on the Mount Florida site with the refurbished ground close to opening. Owen Coyle's side are set to play in the south side before the campaign is over with a huge final seven fixtures in the second tier. The ambitious outfit are seven points clear of nearest rivals Dundee - who have played one game less - and the duo lock horns on the final game of the season.
Queen's will also come up against Partick Thistle, Ayr United and Greenock Morton in that final run in as they look to secure a historic promotion to the Scottish Premiership. Landing a spot in the top league would throw up capacity issues at the new ground but Dempster says the stadium has potential for further expansion while she stopped short of commenting what would happen beyond the end of the season with a lot still to be decided on the playing front.
Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, she said: "Our plan is to play here this season. We are going through the final formalities and sign-offs to allow supporters in.
"It’s going to be open soon. We are going to have our first matches and have the pleasure of being in a great environment.
"We have had two long, hard years to get here. We are looking to get it open rather than worry about what happens beyond that.
"It’s tantalising that in three or four weeks’ time the club could have a game here."
She added: ‘We own Lesser which is a smaller stadium than we might need in the future.
‘But it has the potential to be further expanded. We are being quite diligent on this. Continuing on our long-term plan. We don’t want to talk about what happens at the end of the season until that comes upon us."
Steve Clarke and Scotland will use Lesser Hampden as their training base next week for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Cyprus and Spain.
