Queen's Park to RETURN to Hampden next month with intention for Lesser to be 'operational' in January

Queen's Park will RETURN to Hampden Park next month for their home fixtures with Hamilton Accies and Montrose.

The Spiders are going 'Back to the Future' ahead of their planned return to their new facility at the redeveloped Lesser Hampden with fixture clashes at their temporary home Ochilview Park meaning they will turn out at the National Stadium twice in December. A move that will delight the home support, who have constantly been on their travels.

The ambitious south siders hope to have their new ground 'operational' in January and plan to provide an update on the ongoing work at the stadium as soon as possible. In the meantime the two fixtures taking place across the car park at the National Stadium will be the Scottish Championship clash with Accies on Saturday December 3 followed by the showdown with Montrose a week later in the SPFL Trust Trophy. Both games will kick-off at 3pm.

Club President David Hunter said: “The return to The National Stadium will give Queen’s Park supporters the chance to cheer on the team in a south Glasgow venue for the first time since March 2020.

“A further update on our move to Lesser Hampden will be made as soon as possible and whilst there is still much work to do, our intention is to have that facility operational in January.”

Owen Coyle's men have made a bright start to life in Scotland's second tier and are right in the mix at the top end of a very, very close league table.

Despite sitting sixth ahead of the weekend games, they are just four points behind league leaders Ayr United and one point off the Premiership promotion play-off spots. Next opponents Inverness sit one point and place above the Spiders in the table.
