The Queen's death has left a huge hole in the hearts of the nation, as people of all ages grieve the loss of a woman they admired but may never have met. For Her Majesty's family, they will be mourning her passing in a different and much more personal way. As well as being a monarch, Queen Elizabeth II was a proud mother to four children, grandmother to eight and great-grandmother to 12.
While her relationship with Prince William and Harry was often in the spotlight, she also had a particularly close friendship with her granddaughter, Princess Eugenie. Eugenie would often accompany the Queen to the Easter Day church service in Windsor and to the Royal Windsor Horse Show and Royal Ascot.

Speaking about her love for her grandmother in a recent article for The Spectator, Eugenie wrote: "Her Majesty the Queen is an incomparable monarch who has reached a record-breaking milestone.
"She also happens to be my grannie, and I am a very proud granddaughter."
The princess shared her heartwarming wishes for her one-year-old son, August, to inherit her grandmother's charming characteristics.
"I think about my son August and what I'd like for him, what kind of world I'd like him to grow up in," she wrote.
"And I think of my grannie and what she has stood for, for so many people and for our family during these 70 years.
"I'd love Augie to have her patience, her calmness and her kindness, while always being able to laugh at himself and keep a twinkle in his eye."
Proving just how special their relationship was, Eugenie told her grandmother about her engagement to future husband, Jack Brooksbank, before the rest of her family.
"Grannie actually knew right at the beginning, she was one of the very few people," she gushed in an interview with the BBC.
Her Majesty even lent Eugenie her very first tiara for her wedding day - a tradition she later followed with her sister, Beatrice.
The Queen and the late Prince Philip were one of few guests invited to attend Princess Beatrice's wedding during lockdown in 2020.
She made the occasion even more special by lending her granddaughter a dress straight from her wardrobe, and a tiara previously worn on the Queen's own wedding day in 1947.
Beatrice very much looked up to her grandmother and often spoke of her admiration for the Queen.
"I find my grandmother inspiring every day because her overwhelming sense of duty is linked with an overwhelming curiosity," she told Hello.
"Every day she's curious to learn something new, to do something new... she goes out into the community with a genuine curiosity as to how she can be a force for good in the world."
Both sisters would go and have tea with the Queen and Prince Philip, and developed an even closer bond after their parent's divorce.
"It's always very difficult for children to see their parents split up. And I think perhaps the Queen even felt more maternal towards them," royal expert Angela Levin once said.
The Queen's relationship with her eldest granddaughter, Zara Tindall was more low-profile, but the pair had an incredibly close bond and a shared love for equestrianism.
One royal expert claimed Zara and the Queen had a "tighter" relationship than other grandchildren.
"The Queen has always adored Zara and is so proud of her riding success," Ingrid Seward, Editor-in-Chief of Majesty Magazine, told The Sun.
"They have a lot in common as they talk horses and the Queen has invested in several horses for her."
When Zara and her husband Mike Tindall sadly suffered a miscarriage in 2016, they told how Her Majesty offered much-needed comfort and support.
Former England rugby pro Mike revealed the Queen stayed with the couple for a private service.
He told the House of Rugby podcast in 2019: "Two years ago, she wasn't feeling very well and so she didn't go to church and we'd obviously been what we'd been through with our pregnancy that we lost, so we did our own little private one - just as a three."
The Queen's final and youngest granddaughter, Lady Louise Windsor, is thought to be her "favourite" of them all.
The 18-year-old is the is the eldest child of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, and sources claim Her Majesty had a soft spot for her.
A royal source previously told The Sun: "The Queen loves the fact that Louise and James relish their time at Balmoral, and she has become particularly close to Louise, who seems to have become her favourite grandchild, closely followed by James."
Louise has a love for art and it's reported the Queen allowed her to look through some of Queen Victoria's Highland sketches - a collection that is rarely dug out.
Whether the Queen had a favourite granddaughter or not, she never revealed it, but clearly had a close and special relationship with them all.
