A bagpiper who played for the Queen each morning at breakfast has recalled the 'banter' he had with the 'easy-going and funny' monarch during his four-year tenure. Pipe Major Scott Methven, who was the Queen's Piper until 2019, described being moved from the army in 2015 to live in Buckingham Palace as "surreal", but explained he struck up a "great relationship" with the Queen.
The 48-year-old would play a selection of tunes for 15 minutes at nine o'clock sharp below the Queen's window, wherever she was staying. He has previously told of how Her Majesty supported him when his wife was dying of cancer - making her the 'best employer' he has ever had.
"She had really a quick wit as is well-documented," he said, describing what the Queen was like to work for. "It was just always one-liners, I had so much sort of banter with the Queen, it was great.
