A beautiful picture taken just days after the birth of Meghan and Harry's son Archie has been tweeted out by the Royal Family for his third birthday today (Friday, May 6). The picture captures the special moment The Queen first met her great-grandson two days after his birth.
The tweet read simply: "Wishing Archie Mountbatten-Windsor a very happy 3rd Birthday!" It has been seen as an olive branch to the little boy's parents, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who continue to cause controversy in some circles.
In the picture, the Express reports, Meghan's mother Doria Ragland is seen looking lovingly at Archie, while the Queen, Prince Philip and Duke of Sussex smile. The meeting, captured by photographer Chris Allerton, happened shortly after Harry and Meghan held a photocall at Windsor Castle to introduce the world to their son.
During the brief exchange with the photographers at the photoshoot on May 8, 2019, the new parents were asked if Archie was going to meet his great-grandparents. Meghan then revealed her son had already "bumped into" the Duke of Edinburgh on their way to the photocall.
The Duke and Duchess have since had a daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, who was born on June 4 2021. Harry and Meghan left for a new life in North America just before the pandemic struck.
They had tea with the Queen last month when they stopped off in the UK on their way to the Invictus Games. The Queen is preparing to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee over a four-day weekend from June 2 to June 5.
