5:15pm: Queen Elizabeth's funeral procession arrives in Edinburgh
After a 300-kilometre journey, the royal hearse arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
Eight military pallbearers, followed by the Queen's daughter Princess Anne and her husband Tim Laurence, took the body to the Throne Room, where it will spend the night.
The coffin will be guarded by the Royal Company of Archers, the ceremonial unit that serves as a bodyguard to the British monarch in what is the official royal residence in Scotland, so that the castle staff can say their final goodbyes to the Queen.
3:41pm: Queen Elizabeth's funeral procession arrives in Dundee
The royal hearse passed through Dundee, Scotland's fourth-largest city on the east coast and the last stop before the capital, Edinburgh.
3:30pm: Prince William honoured to be made Prince of Wales
Prince William said he was honoured to be made the new prince of Wales when he spoke with Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford on Sunday, Kensington Palace said in a statement.
William was given the title, previously held by his father for more than 50 years, following the death of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth last week.
"The prince acknowledged his and the princess’s deep affection for Wales, having made their first family home in Anglesey including during the earliest months of Prince George’s life," the statement said.
"The Prince and Princess will spend the months and years ahead deepening their relationship with communities across Wales. They want to do their part to support the aspirations of the Welsh people and to shine a spotlight on both the challenges and opportunities in front of them."
2:49pm: Queen Elizabeth II's funeral procession arrives in Aberdeen
The royal hearse drove through Aberdeen, Scotland's third-largest city, where a large crowd was waiting in silence.
Queen Elizabeth spoke last year of her “deep and abiding affection” for Scotland and recalled the “many happy memories” that she and her late husband Prince Philip shared in the country.
The queen’s mother, also called Elizabeth, was from a Scottish family, who lived at Glamis Castle in Angus. As a young princess, Elizabeth spent most of her summers in Scotland either with her parents at Balmoral Castle or with her maternal grandparents at Glamis.
While still a teenager she gave her first public speech in Aberdeen in 1944, when she opened a home for the British Sailors’ Society.
12:21pm: China's President Xi congratulates Charles III on his accession to the throne
China's President Xi Jinping on Sunday congratulated Charles III on his accession to the British throne, state media reported.
Xi told Charles in a message that he was willing to "expand friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthen communication on global issues", the official Xinhua news agency said.
12:20pm: India observes a day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II
India observed a day of mourning on Sunday for Queen Elizabeth II with flags lowered to half-staff on all government buildings. Flags atop the Indian parliament, President House, Red Fort and other government offices in New Delhi were lowered.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called Queen Elizabeth “a stalwart of our times”.
11:08 am: Coffin carrying Queen Elizabeth II leaves Balmoral Castle
Queen Elizabeth II's coffin on Sunday left the Scottish retreat at Balmoral where she died, with thousands of people lining the route towards Edinburgh.
A hush fell over the gathered crowd as the cortege carrying the queen's casket exited the gates of Balmoral Castle. The United Kingdom is observing more than a week of mourning, culminating in her state funeral in London on September 19.
Six groundskeepers had loaded the oak coffin – draped with a Scottish Royal Standard and a floral wreath – into a black hearse that was to wind its way slowly on a six-hour journey to Scotland's capital.
Security escort vehicles and a mauve Bentley carrying the queen's only daughter Princess Anne made up the cortege passing through a series of towns before reaching Edinburgh, where her coffin will rest for two days to allow people to pay tribute.
10:00am: 'Reunited for granny': UK papers hail apparent reconciliation between William and Harry
Britain's newspapers on Sunday were hailing an apparent royal reconciliation as their front pages were dedicated to the reunion of princes William and Harry, along with their wives Kate and Meghan.
Pictures of the quartet looking at floral tributes to Queen Elizabeth II outside her former Windsor Castle residence were splashed across the covers of many of the nation's Sunday papers.
"Reunited for granny," read the Mirror's headline, while the Telegraph ran with "Reunited in sorrow" and the Sun with "All 4 One".
Some papers hinted that relations still appeared to be frosty, with the Times headline reading: "Warring Windsors' awkward truce to honour the Queen".
9:58am: Queen Elizabeth II begins solemn journey
