Queen's favourite TV show that she could 'recite one-liners' from

After the Queen's death on September 8 last week, there have been many anecdotes and memories shared about the monarch's hobbies and personal life.

One journalist even recently recalled a conversation he had with the Queen where she revealed what her favourite television programme was and she even recited a couple of one-liners from the show, the Mirror reports.

Phil Jones, who left BBC Radio 2 after 30 years in February, wrote a piece for the New Statesman about his visit to Buckingham Palace where he had a chat with the Queen and found out what she liked to watch on TV.

He said the Queen's favourite show was The Kumars at No. 42, and she was such a big fan of the comedy programme that she even began to recite a couple of one-liners to him.

Phil wrote: "In 2001 I was invited to a media function at Buckingham Palace.

"We chatted for ages, which I can tell you is rather surreal. My brain kept saying, 'Bloody hell I’m talking to the Queen and I can’t think of a single thing to say!'

"In the end, I alighted on, 'What’s your favourite programme?' Straightaway, she said, 'The Kumars at No. 42' and, even more astonishingly, proceeded to recite some of the one-liners from the grandma character, played by the brilliant Meera Syal."

The Kumars at No. 42 was reportedly the Queen's favourite show (BBC)

The Kumars at No. 42 was a BBC programme that ran for seven series from 2001 - 2006.

It featured a fictional British Indian family and starred Sanjeev Bhaskar as Sanjeev Kumar, an aspiring chat show host who invited celebrity guests over to his house for interviews.

However, his family ended up interrupting the discussions and the celebs spent more time talking to his family than they did Sanjeev. Some of the guests included Olivia Coleman, Daniel Radcliffe and Hugh Jackman.

It was also told by Phil that the Queen was a big fan of Terry Wogan, though this was not such a big secret.
