Queen postpones diplomatic reception following advice from the Foreign Secretary

The Queen has postponed a Diplomatic Reception following advice from the Foreign Secretary, Buckingham Palace has said.

It is not clear why Her Royal Highness has made the decision and whether it has anything to do with the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

She had been expected to meet hundreds of members of the Diplomatic Corps at Windsor on Wednesday, March 2.

On Tuesday, Her Majesty cancelled virtual engagements that were planned as she was still suffering from mild-cold like symptoms due to Covid-19.

It was revealed last Sunday that the Queen had tested positive for Covid but would continue light duties and virtual audiences at Windsor Castle, where she is isolating.

Buckingham Palace had insisted the Queen, who is triple vaccinated, would this week be continuing light duties at her desk.

Just hours after testing positive the Queen signed off a message to the Team GB Men’s and Women’s Curling teams, following their success at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

A number of palace staff who work and care for Her Majesty are also understood to have been hit by the virus in the last few days.

The Queen is due to attend the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey on March 14 and then the Duke of Edinburgh’s memorial service, also at the Abbey, on March 29.

Until recently the Queen had been on doctors’ orders to rest since mid-October, after cancelling a run of engagements and spending a night in hospital.

She regularly uses a walking stick and has been pictured recently looking frail. She has spoken of her mobility issues, telling two senior military officers during a Windsor Castle audience last week: “Well, as you can see, I can’t move.”
