Her Majesty, The Queen has been on the throne for an incredible 70 years and has gained a reputation not only for her dedication to duty but for her wicked sense of humour.
Whether it is choosing to cut a cake with a sword instead of a knife or her witty remark to a couple of American tourists who did not recognise her, The Queen is renowned for her love of a joke.
There are also a number of funny stories that have been revealed by members of her family about the times Her Majesty has lost her temper with them as a regular grandmother might.
One of the best was recalled by her grandson, The Duke of Cambridge, during an interview with Sky News in 2016 ahead of The Queen's 90th birthday.
Prince William detailed how he and his cousins, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, were playing at Balmoral Castle one summer and received a huge telling off from The Queen when they caused an accident.
Prince William said: "[ Peter Phillips and I] were chasing Zara around who was on a go-cart, and [we] managed to herd Zara into a lamppost and the lamppost came down and nearly squashed her.
"And I remember my grandmother being the first person out at Balmoral to come running across the lawn in her kilt. She came charging over and gave us the most almighty b******ing, and that sort of stuck in my mind from that moment on."
In the same interview, Prince William also revealed the strong bond he shares with his grandmother.
He opened up about the Queen's presence in his life as a "strong female influence" after the loss of his mother at a young age.
He said: "It's been particularly important to me that I've had somebody like the Queen to look up to and who's been there and who has understood some of the more complex issues when you lose a loved one. So she's been incredibly supportive and I've really appreciated her guidance."
Balmoral Castle is on a large estate in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is located near the village of Crathie and 50 miles west of Aberdeen.
The historic retreat is based in the Scottish Highlands and is a favourite of the Queen. The time spent there is usually filled with family picnics, fishing, and deer stalking.
Other events during the summer include visits to the Highland Games at the Braemar Gathering where the royals will watch everything from the Caber Toss to a huge Tug O' War.
Balmoral was bought by Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, in 1852 from the Farquharson family. The original house was felt to be too small, so the current Balmoral Castle was commissioned.
Balmoral Castle is still privately owned and is not the property of the Crown, unlike other residences. As the castle was originally bought by Prince Albert using personal funds, any revenue from the estate does not go to Parliament or the public purse.
