New Queens signing Shea Gordon is hoping after his recovery from Covid he can give the South a much healthier position in the Championship table.
The midfielder joined the Palmerston side on loan from Partick Thistle just hours before the squad headed north to play Inverness and was thrown straight into Allan Johnston’s starting eleven for his debut.
The 23-year-old was delighted to be back on the pitch and is looking forward to his new challenge.
He said: “It was a tough game, really intense, up and down.
“There was a lot of running and tough breaks but I am glad to get back playing. It’s been a while now since I played properly so I am looking forward to keeping going.
“I’m just back from having Covid, I wasn’t well for a few days but I have recovered and trained for a week and a half. I’m naturally fit so I was glad to go straight in and get game time.”
He added: “The main reason I joined the club is to get game time. You come to play games and do well for the club, that has to be the main thing. When you come on loan you want to do well and impress so hopefully, I can score goals and create a few as well to help the team get up the league a bit.”
Gordon was instrumental as Queens took the lead at the Caledonian Stadium and as the hosts fought back, the visitors showed resilience digging in to take a share of the points with the loanee feeling they could have taken all three.
He said: “We performed well and the fact that we are disappointed that we haven’t won shows how well we’ve done.
“That’s what we need to take going forward. We have shown we can compete, we’re not miles away from these teams. We have showed we are more than good enough to step up and play at one of the top teams in the league, so we need to take that on board over the next few weeks.”
Queens boss Allan Johnston was also happy with the debutant and the result.
He said: “I’m sure he is going to be a big asset. I think he played well and it was a good debut. He has been out and not played for a while so that’s why he cramped up at the end but there were a lot of encouraging signs.
“I thought we played well and it was a really good team performance, I think we were unlucky only to come away with a point.
“We created a lot of chances against one of the best defences in the league and looked dangerous going forward. We dealt with the physical side of it but still gave away cheap goals, so we need to defend better but we worked hard.”
Having lost Innes Cameron, the manager hopes Gordon won’t be the only new face this transfer window.
He added: “We are still looking to add a few players but it is difficult in January as there is a lot of competition out there.”
