The Queen "knew she wasn't going to come back from Balmoral and wanted to pass there", a royal expert has said.
Katie Nicholl, Vanity Fair's royal correspondent, believes the Queen wanted to be at her Scottish residency in Balmoral if she were to pass away - rather than stay at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.
The monarch passed away on Thursday at the age of 96 after spending an increased amount of time at her beloved Balmoral estate over the summer as she struggled with "mobility issues".
