Queen Elizabeth’s home recipe for the perfect pancakes has gone viral online in the aftermath of her death.
After her 70-year reign, Her Majesty passed away in the comfort of her Balmoral Estate in Scotland.
Her funeral took place on Monday, September 19, as world leaders from across the globe gathered alongside the royal family and those who worked closely with the late Queen to say their final goodbyes to the longest-running monarch.

In remembrance of the Queen, one Reddit profile posted a recipe that was reportedly shared in a 1959 letter from the Queen to American president Dwight Eisenhower.
Since being shared on the Reddit group Old Recipes, it has been 95 percent upvoted and has attracted the attention of thousands across the globe.
According to the story behind the recipe going public, the Queen had promised it to President Eisenhower and his wife when they met at Balmoral Castle.
She wanted to keep her word, and after she saw a picture of him in the newspaper, she sent a letter to the couple along with the recipe included.
It is a simple pancake batter with bicarbonate of soda and cream of tartar added and then small spoonfuls of batter are cooked on a hot pan.
It's clear by the comments on the Reddit post that there is some confusion over the fact that the Queen had labelled them drop scones.
One person explained: "'Drop scones' is a slightly old-fashioned name for what's more commonly called Scotch pancakes, and they're pretty similar to American pancakes. Like American pancakes, they're best cooked and eaten fresh; they only take a few minutes to cook each one.”
Another commenter said, "I made these a few months ago. As an American, these are not the scones you know.
“They're kind of a thick pancake/blini type thing with a springy texture. Nice with butter and powdered sugar or toasted leftover with strawberry jam."
If you want to give them a go yourselves, here is Queen Elizabeth II’s drop scones recipe:
Ingredients
- 4 teacups flour
- 4 tablespoons caster sugar
- 2 teacups milk
- 2 whole eggs
- 2 teaspoons bicarbonate soda
- 3 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Method
- Beat eggs, sugar, and about half the milk together.
- Add flour, and mix well together, adding the remainder of milk as required, also bi-carbonate and cream of tartar, and fold in the melted butter.
- To cook, simply heat a fry pan or hotplate and grease with a little butter. Cook small spoonfuls of the batter and flip to cook both sides.
- Serve the drop scones warm with powdered sugar, jam, and cream or golden syrup.
