Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has passed away at the age of 96.
In an announcement made today, the Royal Family said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
The Queen, who turned 96 in April, is currently in Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire. She pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, a day after appointing Liz Truss as PM at her home in the Scottish Highlands.
On Thursday, it was announced by the Royal Family that the monarch was under medical supervision at Balmoral with doctors concerned for her health.
Clarence House confirmed the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall traveled to Balmoral shortly after it was announced that she was unwell. The Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge also travelled to be by her side.
The Queen had been the ruling monarch since she ascended the throne in 1952. The monarch's passing follows that of her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away in April 2021 at the age of 99.
