Nitin Potdar, a board member of KNCB (Royal Dutch Cricket Association), is responsible for its cricket development. An IT professional with a Swedish energy company, he's also former chairman of Qui Vive Cricket Club, one of the largest in The Netherlands. He's been associated with Dutch cricket for over 22 years, both as player and administrator. He hails from Hubballi in North Karnataka where he did his schooling and engineering before moving to The Netherlands in early 2000s. During a recent visit to Bengaluru, he talked to TOI about the state of Dutch cricket today and the road ahead.
"The main areas of focus are raising awareness of the sport and spreading the offering so that cricket can be played in more places. We're seeing a small increase in associations (clubs) and members, especially among senior men, where interest in the shorter format (T20) is particularly visible. We focus on youth and women's cricket because of low membership numbers and competition participation is minimal. There are challenges in playing fields, at both existing and new venues," he said.
