Emergency services rushed to the aid of a "despondent" man in the middle of the night on Saturday.
Southport Lifeboat confirmed that crews were called by HM Coastguard to reports of a despondent man near Southport Pier minutes before 11pm on Saturday, August 6. The volunteers were deployed on quadbikes to search the beach, both north and south of the pier, with the D-Class lifeboat at standby on the slipway.
The Lifeboat's drone was launched and a search of the pier and marshes was underway using a thermal camera. After an extensive search, the casualty was eventually found by the mobile coastguard team near Marine Lake.
