The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) has been selected by the government to be the venue for hosting the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) this year, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Thursday.
Gen Prayut said the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall had been chosen as the place to host a banquet for the leaders attending the meeting.
The QSNCC in Bangkok's Khlong Toei district and Impact Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province had been the contenders for the summit venue, while the ICONSIAM shopping complex and the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall had competed to be the site for the banquet.
The newly renovated QSNCC would reflect the change in Thailand and the navy's convention hall would offer world leaders an opportunity to see the glorious Grand Palace.
Although the prime minister made the announcement on Thursday, the convention center already posted a statement on its website on Feb 10 confirming the selection.
The summit will take place from Oct 30 to Nov 3, 2022.
Thailand hosted the Apec summit in 1992 when Anand Panyarachun was the prime minister and in 2003 during the Thaksin Shinawatra administration.
