N.C.C. Management & Development Co, the operator of Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), has secured 20 events throughout the remaining four months of the year, with some of them relocated from overseas.
Sutichai Bunditvorapoom, executive vice-president, said many big events will be organised in Thailand for the first time, such as Huawei Connect. Usually held in Shanghai, the event's 2022 edition next month has been relocated to Bangkok.
China's largest telephone-network equipment maker also plans to hold three more events at QSNCC in the future.
There are other relocated events including Asia-Pacific Leather Fair and Asia Fruit Logistica that were moved from Hong Kong.
"Not only events from China and Hong Kong which relocate due to travel difficulty in China, but also events like Jewelry & Gem ASEAN that changed from Singapore as it wants an exhibition in a new venue," said Mr Sutichai.
QSNCC will open on Sept 12. As of today, it secured a total of 20 events until the end of the year which will take up an occupancy of over 50%.
More than 140 events already booked its space for events in 2023 which included Mice (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) and concerts. Half of them are new customers.
After being closed for redevelopment three years ago, the new QSNCC has a total area of 300,000 square metres, up from 65,000 sq m.
Event space has inceased to 78,500 sq m from 25,000 sq m, featuring 50 meeting rooms which rose from 15.
Retail space and restaurants are upgraded to 12,000 sq m from 5,000 sq m. Of the amount, half is scheduled to open from next month.
Mr Sutichai said rental rate at the new venue will see a 10-15% increase, while the rate will be 20% higher than those venues in outer areas of Bangkok.
QSNCC has around 1,000 staff, of which 70% was newly recruited from other companies.
The remaining 30% used to work for the former QSNCC and temporarily relocated to work with affiliates like hotels and Bhumirajanagarindra Kidney Institute Hospital under TCC Group, owned by the Sirivadhanabhakdi family -- the major shareholder of N.C.C.
