The death of a woman in the driveway of a Cairns unit is being treated as suspicious, as a man known to her is questioned by police.
Investigators believe the man alerted emergency services at about 5am on Friday morning before the 47-year-old woman was found unconscious in the suburb of Manunda.
She died at the scene at about 6.20am.
Police are looking at whether domestic violence played a role, but Detective Inspector Kevin Goan said the investigation is still in the early stages.
"There had been an intimate relationship between the two," he said.
The pair are from far north Queensland and the unit was vacant, police believe.
"My understanding is they were rough sleepers," Det Insp Goan told reporters.
No charges have been laid and no weapons were found at the scene.
