Qatar World Cup 'time traveller' shares footage predicting result of 2022 final

A TikTok user claiming to be a time traveller insists they know the result of the World Cup final set to take place on December 18.

It's not good news for England fans, as the 'World Cup Time Traveller' claims Brazil will beat champions France 2-1 at the Lusail Stadium to win their sixth world title. The anonymous individual is one of many TikTok users who claim to be from the future.

But unlike many of these self-proclaimed time travellers, this Doctor Who wannabe has made a number of correct predictions in the past - including England's 4-0 win against Ukraine at Euro 2020. Three Lions supporters will be hoping their latest prediction is false.

In the final, the time traveller is backing Marquinhos to open the scoring before Antoine Griezmann equalises on the stroke of half-time. Richarlison then gets the winner late in normal time to break French hearts and end Brazil's 20-year wait for World Cup success.

The time traveller's statement has been met with scepticism, with one TikTok user pointing out that some of the footage is from Brazil's 2-0 win against Serbia. The video is mostly just clips of players and fans celebrating, rather than any footage of future goals. There's also no footage of Brazil lifting their long-awaited sixth World Cup.

Some TikTok experts believe certain accounts make multiple prediction videos with different scores and keep them on private until the game is played. That way, they can delete all the false predictions and promote the correct one with an old time stamp.

Whether the time traveller's prediction comes true remains to be seen. All England fans can be sure of is they're still in the tournament and face a huge game against Wales on Tuesday. Gareth Southgate's side need to avoid a four-goal defeat to reach the last 16.

Southgate was asked by BBC Sport if he was feeling the pressure heading into the all-British encounter. "None more than normal," he said. "We recognise this is a game with a lot of focus because it's a local derby, but we're England - everyone wants to beat us.

"There are high expectations every time we're on the pitch. We've got to focus on playing as well as we can while showing that composure and ruthlessness that's going to be needed to win."

A 4-0 win for Wales would see them leapfrog England. Hungary have proved that result is possible - recording it against the Three Lions in June - although it's very unlikely that will happen at a World Cup. As such, Rob Page's side need to find an alternative way.

Wales' most obvious route to the last 16 is beating England - by any score-line - and hoping Iran's game against the United States ends in a draw. If either Iran or the US win, Wales' hopes will be dashed - unless they achieve a four-goal win.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Page said: "We've worked so hard to get into this position. My frustration and disappointment for the players is that we've shown nowhere near the levels of performance that have got us to this World Cup. That's what really disappoints me.

"We've picked them up, we've addressed it, we've got to draw a line under it, the last performance. Irrespective of the other results, whether we go home or whether we go through, we have to give a performance that our supporters can be proud of."
