Qatar has re-engaged with the Hamas political bureau in Doha following the recent killing of the group's leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza. Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani confirmed that meetings have taken place in the past few days, although the path forward remains unclear.
Hamas's stance on the ceasefire and hostage negotiations has not shifted since previous mediation attempts. Senior Hamas official Khalil Al-Hayya reiterated that hostages would only be released under specific conditions, including the end of the war in Gaza, Israeli forces' withdrawal from the enclave, and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Al Thani disclosed that a Hamas delegation is currently in Egypt for ongoing discussions. Additionally, negotiating teams from the United States and Israel are expected to visit Doha to renew efforts towards a Gaza deal.
During a news conference with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Al Thani emphasized the importance of reaching an agreement to end the conflict in Gaza. He stated that pressure would persist on all parties involved to prioritize ending the war.
