Qantas Apologises For In-Flight Entertainment Error Which Left Passengers With A Spicy Movie

A Redditor’s complaint has gone gangbusters online after they claimed that their whole Qantas flight was stuck watching movie that “was extremely inappropriate”.

A Redditor (u/MariKontan) who claimed to be a passenger of Qantas flight QF59 from Sydney to Haneda, has had a major bone to pick with the airline.

In a wild post to the r/QantasAirways subreddit, the user claimed that the in-flight entertainment systems were down across the board therefore all passengers were made to watch the same movie.

However, according to the Redditor, the movie that was picked was way too inappropriate for the aircraft.

“After a one-hour delay, the pilot decided to take off anyway, but the only option left was for the crew to play a movie on every screen – and it was impossible to pause, dim, or turn it off,” the Redditor began.

“Here’s the kicker: the movie they played was extremely inappropriate. It featured graphic nudity and a lot of sexting – the kind where you could literally read the texts on screen without needing headphones.

“It took almost an hour of this before they switched to a more kid-friendly movie, but it was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids onboard.”

Alongside the complaint the Redditor shared a series of pics from the flick, which featured a text exchange spicier than the stuff you cop on Hinge.

Soon after the post was made, fellow Redditors jumped in with their two cents regarding the ‘yuge blunder.

“That is actually insane, like surely when you get the list of movies available you choose the least likely to offend. Like Finding Nemo or Despicable Me. How do you choose a movie that’s for mature audiences?” one person shared.

“Weird you couldn’t turn it off… I don’t think they should have to play family movies in this scenario though. I can really remember flying in the 90s when there wasn’t individual screens in each seat,” a second person added.

“Actually surprised that this was even loaded into the media library,” wrote a third.

Within the same thread, another user revealed that the snippet is from Daddio (2024), starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, which follows a woman who is having an affair with a married man and how she got entangled in that messy web of lies.

Qantas responds to ‘extremely inappropriate’ movie claims

Following the virality of the Reddit post, Qantas has come forward and confirmed that the incident did happen. In a statement shared with PEDESTRIAN.TV, the airline apologised and understood that the movie was not suitable for the whole aircraft.

The airline also noted that crew members had a small selection of movies to pick from. Once it became clear that the movie was inappropriate, it was quickly changed and staff apologised to customers who’d complained.

“The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight and we sincerely apologise to customers for this experience,” a spokesperson for Qantas said.

“All screens were changed to a family friendly movie for the rest of the flight, which is our standard practice for the rare cases where individual movie selection isn’t possible.

“We are reviewing how the movie was selected.”

The Redditor has yet to share an update regarding their experience with Qantas.

Thank fuck the movie wasn’t something wild like 50 Shades Of Grey. I would be scromitting if that happened on my flight.
