PV Sindhu starts Paris Olympics campaign with dominant win over Fathimath Abdul Razzaq

NEW DELHI: Indian shuttler PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, commenced her Paris Olympics journey with a decisive victory over Maldives' Fathimath Abdul Razzaq in the women's singles group stage on Sunday. The match concluded with Sindhu winning 21-9, 21-6 in just 29 minutes, affirming her superiority on the court.

Sindhu, seeking her third Olympic medal, demonstrated her skill and experience against the lower-ranked Razzaq. Despite a few early errors, Sindhu quickly adapted and surged to an 11-4 lead in the first game, which she wrapped up in 13 minutes. Fathimath Abdul Razzaq, ranked 111th in the world, found it difficult to match the former world champion's pace and skill.

The second game mirrored the first, with Sindhu quickly claiming the first four points to set an early advantage. Though Razzaq momentarily narrowed the gap to 3-4, Sindhu soon reasserted her dominance, pushing the score to 10-3. The match concluded with Sindhu needing only one of her 14 match points to secure the victory.

Sindhu, currently ranked 13th in the world and seeded 10th in the tournament, previously won a silver medal at the Rio 2016 Games and a bronze at Tokyo 2020. She is set to face World No. 75 Kristin Kuuba of Estonia in her next group match, scheduled for Wednesday.

Fans anticipate another strong performance from Sindhu as she aims to add another Olympic medal to her collection.
