PV Sindhu advances in Singapore Open after first-round win

India's two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu secured a comfortable victory in the first round of the Singapore Open against Denmark's Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt on Wednesday.

Sindhu triumphed over her Danish opponent 21-12, 22-20 in the women's singles match that lasted 44 minutes.

Sindhu dominated from the start, winning the first game easily. In the second game, Kjaersfeldt attempted a comeback, but Sindhu held her nerves better in a close finish to win it 22-20 and advance to the next round of the tournament.

Sindhu came into the Singapore Open after losing the title clash of the Malaysia Masters against China's Wang Zhi Yi 21-16, 5-21, 16-21.

Also, on Tuesday, the world's top-ranked men's doubles duo of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy suffering a shocking early exit in the first round of the Singapore Open.

Chirag and Satwik were defeated by the 34th-ranked Danish pair of Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard. The match lasted 47 minutes, with the Indian duo losing in straight sets (20-22, 18-21).
