A breakaway dunk in Monday’s showdown between No. 2 Purdue and No. 11 Gonzaga at the Maui Invitational produced a mesmerizing video fans can’t stop talking about.
The moment came late in the second half of the matchup between the Boilermakers and Bulldogs. With Purdue starting to get some separation, junior forward Caleb Furst got a steal and took the ball coast to coast for a slam dunk that extended the team’s lead to 14 with just under three minutes to go. Furst had no Bulldogs defenders in sight as he ran in for the dunk, but the video from behind the play is what made it so cool.
Furst’s teammates, Lance Jones, Myles Colvin and Braden Smith, can be seen jumping in unison with him as he throws down the dunk. That produced this awesome video from behind the play that has since gone viral.

It was quite the way to put the exclamation point on the win, which to date is Purdue’s best of the season. It helped the Boilermakers advance to the semifinals of the storied event, where they’ll take on No. 7 Tennessee Tuesday. It’s a highlight that we’ll likely see all season long, and everyone couldn’t stop watching.
