It's reasonable that a rainy day in the DMV would affect the area’s outdoor sports, as it has the Baltimore Ravens‘ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday afternoon.
However, going above and beyond the call of duty, a steady, cold downpour wreaked havoc on a nearby indoor sporting event as well.
Purdue and Maryland’s women's basketball game—scheduled for Saturday afternoon in College Park, Md.—was postponed due to a roof leak.
A 4:30 p.m. local time tip-off was delayed as water began dripping into the 22-year-old Xfinity Center. Both teams were sent to the arena’s locker rooms, and according to Big Ten Network officials began mulling alternate options for playing the game.
Finally, after about 40 minutes, the game was called off with the Terrapins’ social channels indicating it would be made up at “a later date.”
We are in a brief delay due to a facilities issue on the court. We will provide updates as soon as possible.
