An abandoned puppy has been found in the woods waiting for somebody to come along and save him. Hank the eight-month-old dog was discovered with a broken leg and only a few belongings to his name when a Good Samaritan came to his aid.
Hank was sat in the forest in an old dog bed for two weeks, with a few toys and a sealed bag of dog food that he couldn't open. A heartbreaking photo shows his little face in desperate need of help. Thankfully, he was found and taken straight to an emergency veterinary clinic in Florida, US, where staff say his tail immediately "started wagging" with hope for the future.
Hank's rescuers were initially concerned that he might become aggressive as they didn't know anything about his history, but his gentle demeanour soon surprised them all.
Humans and Animals United, the non-profit organisation that took him in, wrote in a post on Facebook : "Please welcome the boy abandoned in the woods.
"Hank is as sweet as they come. Only a puppy at eight months old yet has been through so much. His tail started wagging once he knew he was being taken into the veterinary hospital.
"We cannot imagine why anyone would dump him with a broken leg. Left him with his bed, toys and food in the woods. Whoever you are please know that Hank is now safe and will never ever be hurt again."
The animal welfare team paid tribute to all of the individuals that had come together to help save Hank from his traumatic experience.
"We would like to thank everyone who has been part of his rescue story so far," they said.
"This world has so many good loving people... to see everyone get together for this little one is beyond admirable."
After being inspected by vets, it was discovered that Hank's leg injury was two weeks old, explaining why he'd been unable to move from his bed.
In an update on Facebook, the animal rescue said: "Hank is in good spirits and the staff simply adore him."
He is scheduled for life-saving surgery and will need to put on more weight to get back to full health.
Beloved Hank has interacted well with humans and other dogs so far, and they will soon be accepting applications to adopt him when he is ready.
