Punjab polls: Charanjit Singh Channi draws SC votes, says SSM leader

SAHOORA (ATTARI): With the Congress announcing a scheduled caste (SC) CM face for the Punjab elections, farmer leaders in Attari feel their Dalit vote bank might be slipping to the ruling party.

Leaders of Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) are already struggling to keep up their election campaign. Farm leader Rattan Singh Randhawa is of the view that over 60% SC voters have shifted to Congress after the announcement of Channi's name as Congress party's CM face. "In a couple of days only, we have observed a visible change. We are of the view that 60% SC votes have gone to Congress and remaining 40% will be divided between Akalis and AAP, and a very small share will come to SSM," he said.

Randhawa is a prominent member of the campaign teams of SSM candidates Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala from Attari and Gurnam Singh from Jandiala.

Satnam said their strength was their honesty and will to fight against corruption. Without naming any political leaders, he said many leaders had to speak about their honesty, but their (SSM's) support base knew them well.
