Chandigarh: The councillors of the BJP and the Congress lambasted the Punjab and Haryana governments for using Chandigarh’s facilities without giving a single penny in financial support. During a special general house held on Thursday, the ruling and opposition councillors said the state governments always set their agendas on the city, but do nothing for it, its residents and its development.
The councillors said both of the state governments were staking claim to Chandigarh, but none was giving jobs and education to the youth and the children of the city. And they set the criteria in a manner that those from UT don’t get jobs and education in these states, they said, adding that their ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats enjoy all the facilities of Chandigarh at citizens’ expense. “The Centre takes care of Chandigarh. It gives finances to run the city and its development, but Punjab and Haryana governments do not give a penny. Therefore, we brought this agenda here for discussion on the request of the people of the city. Chandigarh should remain as a UT and not go to either Punjab or Haryana,” said senior deputy mayor Daleep Sharma.
