CHANDIGARH: The mutation in Covid-19 virus was behind the severe infections among the younger population and a high positivity rate among symptomatic individuals in contrast to the initial phase of the pandemic, according to the epidemiological analysis of Majha and Doaba regions of Punjab - Amritsar, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala - undertaken by the Government Medical College, Amritsar.
As different variants of the virus have an ability to bypass the immune defence, experts said the pandemic will not disappear in the short or medium-term and laid stress on sustained awareness and adequate control measures.
