CHANDIGARH: To promote Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR) technology for conserving underground water, the Punjab Cabinet led by chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday approved Rs 1500 per acre incentive to the farmers for sowing of paddy through this innovative technology.
An official spokesperson said that a sum of Rs 450 crore has been earmarked to provide incentive to the farmers for promotion of less water consuming and cost effective technology. It is estimated that the exercise will save nearly about 15-20 percent water as compared to the conventional puddling (kaddu) method during the life cycle of crops.
