NEW DELHI: Puneet Kaushik defeated Aayush Jain 51-14 57-21 56-8 while Vishnu put it across Apurv 48-01 54-0 54-17 to move up in the fifth and final qualifying event of the RKG 10-red snooker tournament, being played at the Nationals Sports Club of India (NSCI).

In another match, Aayush Tiwari beat Altmash 58-18 42-33 62-61 as the snooker action grips the capital’s cue sport fans.

The qualifying event will make way for the main round of the RKG 10-red snooker tournament, which will be played from April 27 to 30 here, informed Delhi Billiards & Snooker Association’s (DBSA) former vice-president, Ravinder Gupta.

“The standard of snooker has gone up considerably in the initial stages of the tournament. Vishnu constructed a break of 54 which speaks volume of his efforts,” said DBSA secretary Ravi Tandon.

The main tournament carries a whopping prize money of Rs 11,25,000. The first four qualification meets were held in Chennai, Hyderabad, Gurgaon and Indore.

Top two from each qualifier will take part in the main event. Tandon said there is a concerted effort to promote the 10-red among the young cue sport enthusiasts.

Prominent cueists have been participating in the ongoing qualifier including Sumit Talwar, Divya Sharma, Sandeep Gulati, Avinash Kumar, Shoaib Khan and Ranveer Duggal.
