Pune: Toll staffers booked for charging warkaris

PUNE: The Yavat police on Friday registered a complaint of disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant after toll plaza officials continued to charge toll fees from warkaris.

Chief minister Eknath Shinde had announced toll exemption for vehicles of warkaris en route to Pandharpur from various parts of the state.

Inspector Narayan Pawar of the Yavat police said, "Chief minister Eknath Shinde had issued the order in this regard a few days ago. However, the toll plaza officials on the Pune-Solapur Highway continued to charge toll fees from warkaris."

"Videos of the incident went viral on social media sites. Soon after, we took action and registered a complaint against four toll plaza officials under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code," said Pawar.

In the video doing rounds on social media, toll plaza officials are seen asking for toll fees from the warkaris heading towards Pandharpur. The toll plaza officials say the Government Resolution (GR) in this regard has not reached them. If the warkaris have a copy of the GR, they should produce it before the toll officials to avail the exemption.
