Pune: Shut for Metro work, Ramwadi underpass to reopen on March 15

PUNE: The Ramwadi underpass, which was closed to facilitate the Metro-related work, will reopen on March 15 for traffic after several postponements.

Local elected representatives, along with Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) officials and Kalyani Nagar residents, visited the site on Monday morning to review the work done on the stretch. Apart from Metro work, repairs on the underpass — which had leaking walls and poor drainage issues — have also been completed.

Corporator Yogesh Mulik requested Metro officials to complete work at the earliest as dates have already been postponed thrice for reopening this road to vehicles.

Mulik told TOI, “Metro officials earlier faced a few technical difficulties during construction of pillars here as it is a crucial turn. However, work is nearing completion and we have asked them to reopen the route to the public at the earliest. They have taken two months extra to finish the work.”

Meanwhile, residents have been facing inconveniences while travelling from Airport Road to Kalyani Nagar and Koregaon Park towards Viman Nagar via this underpass, since it has been shut for over eight months. Resident of Kalyani Nagar, Santosh Gholap, said, “The officials first gave a deadline of six months. After that, dates have been extended repeatedly and residents have been hassled because they have to always take a long detour to reach arterial locations.”

Mulik added that the underpass road has been repaired and waterproof chambers have been installed.
